If we’ve lived before,

Why can’t we remember it?

Firstly we have nothing in our present “physical brain” to remember our past lives with, H P Blavatsky explained it like this;

Reincarnation means that this Ego will be furnished with a new body, a new brain, and a new memory. Therefore it would be as absurd to expect this memory to remember that which it has never recorded. (The Key To Theosophy, p.128)

Secondly as lives are a learning process in which we have to do what we can, we get a fresh start without the baggage we acquired last time round.

In remembering past lives we are taking ourselves beyond the remit of our normal physical memory and opening up higher faculties. The opening up of these faculties operates independently of true spiritual development.

Although we cannot normally recall specific past life experience, we retain an essence of that experience which will be a subtle influence upon us.
